A Blog Makeover Using Thesis

by Graham Cox on December 19, 2008

You may have noticed a brand new design on this blog if you have visited in the last few days.

It’s a custom design based on Chris Pearson’s astoundingly good Thesis wordpress theme. I wanted a unique design that would help me stand out from the internet marketing crowd and brand my business going forward into 2009. Hopefully the new look will do just that.

For the logo I ran a competition over at 99designs.com which is fantastic if you are looking for a high quality logo or web design. You simply create a design brief, nominate how much you are willing to pay for the winning entry and then designers from all over the world submit their work for your consideration. There are some amazing designers on there so it’s well worth checking out.

Not only has the blog look changed but from now on I’m going to be making much more use of camtasia video screencasts on this blog, showing you what I’m doing to drive my marketing business forward and how you can do the same. So stay tuned!

So what do you think about the new look? Let me know if you like it or prefer the old vanilla (not that I’m leading you or anything…lol!) Thesis style.

P.S. Look out for a video from me early next week, showing you how incredibly versatile Thesis is and why you should consider it for your blog.

Hi Lisa / Jerry,

Glad you like the new stylie, cheers.

Lisa, the Thesis Theme totally rocks as far as I’m concerned. Apart from being very flexible (for instance Thesis can be used for 1, 2 or 3 column designs and the columns can be placed in any order), it’s also a great long term investment. Especially if you get the developers license as you can use it on multiple domains.

But aside from that, I think it’s strongest benefit is there’s a real long-term commitment to the theme, with Chris bringing out new upgrades regularly and providing excellent tutorials and support forums too. If you can afford Thesis, don’t hesitate, it’s worth every penny.

Cheers…Graham

P.S. Sorry for the delay on the Thesis video review btw, xmas, new year etc got in the way a bit. But I should have it posted up in the next week.

Cheers…Graham

Hi Graham,

Really nice job you’ve done with the styling of the Thesis theme. And the new logo you’ve had created is top notch too. I only found out about 99designs about 6 months ago maybe. (One thing about those sites I love, is the fact that you can have 100 different entries to choose from, and you only need to pay the designer you pick!)

Going back to the blog design, and although I haven’t used Thesis, I do know how customisable the theme is. But then, I’m more of a Revolution Theme fan. Probably down to the fact that I was introduced to those themes first.

Take care, ans talk soon!

Thanks
Mark

Hey Graham,

I’ve been using Thesis to build one of several sites and also plan to redo my blog using it and was considering using 99Designs since I’m a coder not a designer but feared not enough people on 99Designs would know Thesis to get enough submissions. Did you request Thesis be used, or did the designers that won suggest it to you? Mind sharing the URL for your 99Designs contest?

Thanks in advance.

Hi Mike

I only used 99Designs for the logo, then found a designer to build a design around it over on the Thesis forums.

Cheers…Graham
